The Friends of Anahuac Refuge (FOAR) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to support, preserve, promote, and enhance the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge and its use for recreational, educational, and scientiific research purposes.

FOAR was established in 1996 by a small dedicated group whose vision, direction and leadership has since blossomed into a dynamic organization of citizens doing wonderful things for the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. These wildlife watchers, hunters, fishermen, private landowners and many others have come together to form one of the leading Friends groups in the country!

FOAR has accomplished many exciting and much needed projects. Recent efforts include:

* Coordinating and teaching an outdoor education program that averages an annual 1,500 students.

* Securing thousands of dollars in grants.

* Creating a 1.5 acre butterfly garden.

* Getting families on the refuge by supporting and promoting the Wildlife Expo!, Family Fishing Day and more.

* Hosting the Wild Things! Reading program with local libraries to get children reading and learning about all things Wild!

* And ALWAYS constructing, maintaining, planting, banding, netting, tagging and restoring anything that requires it.

Whatever your interest, there are many different projects and events that will benefit tremendously from your talent and interests!
