Board of Director's Meeting October 2009           

The meeting was called to order Tuesday, October 6, 2009 6:37 p.m. at the Chamber's County Public Library, 202 Cummings Anahuac, TX

Present David Sarkozi, Kay Lovelace, Travis Lovelace, Jerry Milsaps, Tommy Harris, Carolyn Harris, Matt Jackson, Jimmy Laurent, and Tami Schutter.

Approval of Minutes

David Sarkozi moved the Minutes for August and September 2009 be approved with corrections. The motion passed.

Approval of Treasurer’s Report

Kay Lovelace motioned to accept the Teasurer’s Report with corrections. The motion passed

Nature Store Report

Sales for September were approximately $850. Stock is being moved back to the store now that hurricane season is almost over.

Refuge Report

The 40% design of the new VIS will be completed in the next few weeks. Jimmy Laurent encouraged the Friends to participate in the big sit birding event sponsored by Birdwatcher’s Digest in 2010. Cleaning of Shoveler’s Pond is almost complete and looks very good. Lots of heavy equipment has been arriving. All of the boundary fences have been completed. Boundary signs are being contracted. Contactor is starting on the breakwaters in the bay. Two inspectors and a civil engineer will start soon and will be here at least two years.

New Business

RV internet service is working poorly. May need to upgrade to an exterior antenna.

Old Business

Jerry Milsaps moved that $950 be spent for refrigerator magnets as handouts to new members. The motion passed.

Letter to challenge other refuges to donate to the NWR, has not been drafted yet.  Kay Lovelace moved that $2000 be donated to the NWRA. The motion passed.

Friends of Aransas NWR donated 4 boxed of products for sale in the VIS

Announcements

Annual General meeting will be  January 23, 2010
Budget for 2010 will be reviewed at the next board meeting.
Volunteer Banquet will be December 4, 2009
